The history of Indian motorcycle racing
The history of Indian motorcycle racing can be traced back to the early 20th century, when Indian Motorcycle, one of the first American motorcycle manufacturers, started competing and winning in various races around the world. Some of the notable achievements of Indian Motorcycle include:
- Setting a new world speed record of 56 mph and winning an endurance race from New York City to Springfield and back in 1903.
- Forming the original Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew, a team of three riders who dominated the Flat Track racing scene in the 1940s and 1950s, winning multiple championships and events.
- Returning to the Flat Track racing in 2016 with a new team and a new bike, the Indian Scout FTR750, and capturing an unprecedented triple crown with championships across three different racing classes in 2022
Indian motorcycle racing is also represented by the Indian National Motorcycle Championship, the premier two-wheeler racing event in the country, organized by the Madras Motorsports Club and sponsored by MRF.
