The ACE Championship has been declared as the first-ever electric junior racing series; it intends to India debut in 2024.

The announcement was made at the Hyderabad E-Prix of a brand-new electric racing championship that would serve as a feeder series for Formula E. The new ACE Championship, as it will be known, will debut in 2024.

While it would be a worldwide series, project leader Dilbagh Gill told Autocar India that Asian countries would receive special attention.

The competition will feature two racing levels: an entry-level Challenger Series and a top-tier ACE Championship. The same car, however, will be utilized on both levels. "This will be the first championship in the world where one race car may compete in two distinct championships," ex-Mahindra Racing team principal Gill reveals.

While more details about the car will be announced later, it will perform similarly to the Formula E Gen2 cars, which produced 250kW (340hp). While the car is being developed in Spain, organizers are planning to manufacture it in India.

The prototype displayed at Hyderabad has numerous LED components on the bodywork, wheel rims, and so on. All these will be used during the race to provide additional information about the car. For example, the wheels may turn green when the automobiles accelerate, red when they regenerate energy, and so on.

The ACE Championship will be launched in India

The series schedule will be reduced to 10 weeks, with around 6 rounds anticipated. Each race weekend will consist of two races. The organizers hope to launch the championship in India with the 2024 Hyderabad E-Prix.

The tournament will be staged on regional circuits, aiming to bring the championship to areas currently underrepresented in other championships.

The world's first electric junior racing championship

The ACE Championship is significant because it will be the world's first economic youth electric racing championship. While it will undoubtedly serve as a feeder series for Formula E, Gill emphasizes that with other series, such as the World Endurance and World Rally Championships, also incorporating some sort of electrification, this will also serve as a stepping stone for other racing series.

"The ACE Championship is a significant initiative. "Creating possibilities for new drivers to enter motorsport through the 'electric channel' is critical - and has been lacking until now," stated Alejandro Agag, Formula E's Founder and Chairman.

"Formula E World Championship is the pinnacle in electric motorsport and creating this championship in India is a fantastic idea that clearly fills a void in a massive market for the car industry.”

Former F1 and Formula E driver Nick Heidfeld joined the ACE Championship as an advisor and development driver. "We want the ACE Championship to be fair and inexpensive and to attract youngsters from all around the world to step into motorsport," Heidfeld stated. We're attempting to develop something in the ACE Championship that allows young drivers to enter the sport on good tracks and advance in their careers.”
