Chennai Street Race Rescheduled in 2024 due to Cyclone Michaung

A brand-new street circuit in Chennai, named the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit, was set to host Formula 4 (F4) Indian Championship and Indian Racing League rounds this year. Unfortunately, plans for night races were canceled due to Cyclone Michaung, causing severe flooding in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. While organizers initially hoped to reschedule the rounds, they've now confirmed that the debut of the street track will be postponed to the following year.

In the meantime, all rounds will continue to be hosted at the Madras International Circuit. Goa Aces' Hyman and Shah emerged victorious in the 2023 IRL, with Bangalore Speedsters securing the teams' title.

The Chennai street circuit round, initially scheduled for December 9-10, had tickets on sale from November 4. Unfortunately, due to Cyclone Michaung's impact and ongoing rescue efforts, the Tamil Nadu Government requested organizers, Racing Promotions Private Limited (RPPL), to reschedule the round. Consequently, the entire 2023 season will now take place at the Madras International Circuit. Despite the 3.7km street track having FIA certification and necessary permissions, the focus on relief work prompted the decision to postpone the Chennai round. The circuit surrounds the Island Grounds in the city center.

Raoul Hyman and Sohil Shah: Winners of the 2023 Indian Racing League

The second season of the Indian Racing League was shorter, spanning three rounds. Goa Aces' Raoul Hyman and Sohil Shah secured the title with two wins, three pole positions, and a total of 87 points. Bangalore Speedsters, led by drivers Kyle Kumaran, Sarah Moore, Oliver Webb, and Ashwin Datta, clinched the Teams' Champion title. An additional round of the F4 Indian Championship is set at the Madras International Circuit this weekend, determining the overall winner. With Super Licence points at stake, young talents worldwide compete using the FIA-homologated Gen 2 Mygale F4 car.
