Gaurav Gill is gearing up for World Rally Championship 2, which will take place at the Acropolis Rally in Greece. The accomplished Arjuna awardee will be behind the wheel of a specially prepared Skoda Fabia R5, representing the Italian team Delta Rally.
Gill stands as one of India's most distinguished rally drivers, boasting an impressive track record that includes three Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) victories and an outstanding seven Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) titles. His debut in the World Rally Championship 2 (WRC2) occurred back in 2018 when he piloted a Ford Fiesta R5 under the banner of M-Sport. In 2019, he took the lead in JK Tyre's comeback to the rally scene, and ever since, he has participated in several WRC2 competitions with the steadfast support of JK Tyre.
Gaurav Gill took part in three notable events: the Safari Rally in Kenya, Rally Finland, and the Acropolis Rally. Notably, he secured a sixth-place finish in Greece last year, and he is back this year, determined to achieve an impressive result once again.
The Acropolis Rally is renowned for its demanding twisty mountain roads, where high temperatures and dust intensify the challenges faced by competitors. This year's rally will encompass a daunting total distance of 1,235 kilometers, featuring 15 Special Stages. Gill will be accompanied by his skilled French co-driver, Florian Barral, as they tackle the event in the Rally 2-spec Fabia R5.
Gill expressed his eager anticipation for the Acropolis Rally, stating, "I can't wait to compete in the Rally Acropolis. The scorching heat, the pervasive dust, the challenging rocky mountain routes, and the unforgiving loose gravel all come together to create one of the most grueling rallies on the circuit."
Gill emphasized the challenging nature of this event, remarking, "This event is not suited for those lacking in courage, but these conditions align with my strengths. I anticipate being in my element this weekend, and I'm fully committed to giving my all to secure a commendable outcome."
The WRC2 stands as the premier support series for the World Rally Championship, featuring cars homologated under Group Rally2 regulations. This class is exclusively open to production-based vehicles, with stringent technical specifications to ensure affordability for private teams.
