In what is expected to be a historic event for Indian motorsport, India will shortly make its debut on the MotoGP schedule. It is the conclusion of years of work to bring prestigious international racing back to Buddh International Circuit, which last held a major competition of this caliber in 2013 with the F1 Indian GP.
The Buddh International Circuit (BIC) was initially constructed for Formula 1 racing, and thus, it awaited homologation from the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM). Sandill disclosed that the FIM has conducted an initial assessment, and track modifications are underway in accordance with FIM's recommendations.
While the circuit's fundamental layout will largely remain intact, some changes are in the pipeline. For instance, Turn 13 is set to undergo a transformation into a double apex corner to lower bike speeds. Recognizing the higher risk of injury in two-wheeler racing, adjustments include relocating certain fencing sections to expand run-off areas and gravel sections. Additionally, the safety barriers have been upgraded to meet the latest international standards, featuring the installation of more than 1,800 meters of new safety barricades.
The organizers of MotoGP Bharat are expecting motorcycles to reach staggering speeds of 370kph on the Buddh International Circuit. This feat is made possible by the circuit's remarkable one-kilometer-long back straight, cleverly divided into two sections. The first segment, a downhill stretch, facilitates rapid acceleration, while the subsequent uphill portion allows riders to brake late while maintaining peak velocity.
The early bird tickets, available for a limited time, began at an astonishingly low price of just Rs 800. To put it in perspective, back in 2013, Formula 1 tickets at the same venue spanned from Rs 2,000 to Rs 21,000.
