The world of electric vehicles has been set aflame. The production is being collaborated on between Hero MotoCorp and Zero Motorcycles. Based on this collaboration, a middleweight segment electric motorcycle is getting ready to be designed and produced. It will try to set its own space in the market with several high-performance motorcycles currently only a handful, like the Ultraviolette F77. With plans to launch in FY2026, Hero MotoCorp is all set to make its mark in the performance electric category, bringing cutting-edge technology and global expertise to Indian roads.
A Game-Changer in Performance Electric Motorcycles
Hero MotoCorp's collaboration with Zero Motorcycles, a premium EV manufacturer from California, will marry Zero's powertrain acumen to Hero's productive and marketing prowess. According to Hero's CEO Niranjan Gupta, this e-bike is in the final stages of development and would fill a "white space" in Indian markets. The e-motorcycle in the middleweight section will look at performance enthusiasts as it offers a more powerful and reliable alternative in a niche with very few options.
Electric motorcycles are in increasing demand in India, with companies like Revolt Motors and Ultraviolette already making products available in this segment. However, their sales numbers point to a huge unexplored market. For example, after having launched the high-performance F77 between January and October 2024, Ultraviolette sold just 305 units of this bike, where a new player in the market still has something to boast of.
Expansion of EV Portfolio through Scooters and Budget Options
While the Hero-Zero e-motorcycle builds up the excitement, the Hindustan Times adds that Hero MotoCorp is consolidating its position in the electric scooter space through its Vida brand. In October 2024, Vida recorded its ever-best monthly sales at 7,309 units, up 443% year-on-year. Hero enjoys a 5% market share in this category with a growing network of 203 touchpoints across 116 cities.
Hero aims to expand its Vida portfolio up to FY2025 with relatively more affordable and innovative products. At the same time, it is collaborating with Ather Energy to get over 2,500 charging stations in place for the EVs. Hero is also working on the localisation of production and better powertrain technology and this will reduce the costs further, thus making electric vehicles more accessible to the larger masses.

Conclusion
Given the partnership that Hero MotoCorp has formed with Zero Motorcycles, along with its increasing EV portfolio, Hero MotoCorp is best positioned to lead India in the burgeoning electric two-wheeler market. The launch of the Hero-Zero performance e-bike and increased offerings in Hero Vida are likely to help it shift India to sustainable mobility.
