Peugeot is not a new name in India. This French car brand has been around for a while, but it's still trying to make a significant impact. Recently, people have seen Peugeot's cars, including the 2008 model, being tested on Indian roads. But the bigger news this time is the sighting of the Peugeot 3008 SUV, a larger vehicle that's grabbing attention.
What is the Peugeot 3008?
The Peugeot 3008 SUV in Pune is updated versions of what was the official sell if the previous version 2020 model and still being sold worldwide until a newer one came out last year. The compact SUV rides on the EMP2 platform, which is common to other models of Stellantis too, like the Citroen C5 Aircross. India's price range for C5 Aircross is Rs 36.91 lakh/ Rs 37.69 lakh.
Globally, there are several power plants available, such as a 1.2-liter 130 HP petrol engine, 1.5-liter 130 HP diesel engine, self-charging hybrid with 136 HP, and plug-hybrids which produce power ranging from 179 HP to 300 HP. The flagship model event includes a 4WD system as well. But it's unclear which engine the seen Peugeot 3008 in India already has.
Why is the 3008 SUV in India?
It seems nobody claims they were sent to check it out. No testing was carried out with regard to Stellantis, the parent organization. Alternatively the manufacturer might experiment with it by directly performing the tests against its products. That is why the car is frequently displayed with the red license plates to indicate that it is still under testing.
Despite the Peugeot 3008 SUV being very popular for its looks, efficiency and pricing too in global markets, Stellantis has not announced launching this SUV and its latest one in India.
Stellantis's Strategy in India
Stellantis might not be doing its major revenue creating activities in India, but it can certainly be regarded as a significant strategic hub. Plans include a Leapmotor EV in the market and also for Citroen India's Rs 2,000 crore investment for the launch of new models.
Citroen India has revamped the C3 but plans to launch C3X, an all-new hatchback crossover. Rather, Jeep which is an individual brand under Stellantis is bringing the next-gen Compass by 2026 that will include the all-electric option and based on STLA M platform.
Despite the uncertainty with the 3008, Stellantis's activities show a keen interest in catering to the Indian market with new and innovative vehicles.
