Royal Enfield has unveiled the new Lightning version of the Interceptor 650 and the Thunder edition of the Continental GT 650. These motorcycles are essentially modified versions of normal motorcycles outfitted with accessories.
Thunder edition Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
The Thunder version of the Continental GT 650 has the same add-ons as the Interceptor 650. While these accessories make it more suited to touring, the riding position provided by the basic handlebars and footpegs remains sporty and committed. The starting price in Europe is £6,659 (Rs 6.58 lakh). The Lightning and Thunder editions are now identical to their ordinary counterparts in engine, hardware, and features.
Lightning edition Royal Enfield Interceptor 650
The Interceptor 650 Lightning edition has several accessories that give it a scrambler appearance. It receives a ribbed touring seat, a fly screen, an aluminium sump guard, small engine guards, touring mirrors, and a CNC oil filler cap. Royal Enfield has also provided the bike with removable soft panniers, which add to its design and practicality. In Europe, pricing for this version begins at £6,459 (Rs 6.38 lakh).
The bikes are powered by a 648cc parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled engine that produces 47bhp at 7,150rpm and 52Nm of peak torque at 5,250rpm. A six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch handles transmission tasks.
Regarding hardware, both bikes ride on 18-inch spoke wheels suspended by 41mm telescopic forks with 110mm of travel up front and twin springs with 88mm of travel at the rear. Meanwhile, braking is handled by 320mm and 240mm discs at the front and back, respectively, with dual-channel ABS. The Interceptor has a 13.7-litre gasoline tank, while the GT 650 has a 12.5-litre tank.
While the Lightning and Thunder variants of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 are not available in India, the same accessories are available from Royal Enfield's official accessory catalogue.
