Chennai brothers Johann and Geoffrey Emmanuel of India, in a historic moment for Indian motorsports, became the first Indians to win all three races in the 300 SSP category. The Qatar Superbike and Superstock Championship was held on November 16 and 17 at Lusail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar. In a totally different category, the brothers won podium places in each race they participated in, doing it for the first time here in Qatar Superbike and Superstock Championship for brothers.
Johann Emmanuel's Hat-Trick Victory
Johann Emmanuel, an 18-year-old college student pursuing Visual Communication at Madras Christian College, left a lasting impression in the 300 SSP category. Riding a Kawasaki Ninja 300, he clinched victory in all three races, becoming the first Indian to achieve this feat in the championship.
Despite limited practice time, Johann showcased exceptional skill. Starting second, he turned his qualifying position into a victory in the first race. In the second race, Johann overcame a mechanical challenge when he lost a gear and dropped to fifth. He made a remarkable comeback to finish 14 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. In the final race, he was clear from start to finish, winning with an 18-second gap.
The feelings about the race unreal for Johann. He has said that his performance has given him more confidence to face the rest of the races.
Geoffrey Emmanuel Shines in the 600cc Category
The brothers who contested were Johann's elder brother, Geoffrey Emmanuel, who is a third-year BCA student of Madras Christian College and was competing in the 600cc category aboard a Kawasaki ZX6r. Demonstrating persistence and skill, Geoffrey secured podium finishes in all three races: he came third in both the first races and second in the final one.
Having started from P11 in Race 1, it was Geoffrey who fought through the pack to take third place. In Race 2, he managed a better-starting grid position at P6 and again produced an identical performance with another third-place finish. He had a difficult moment in the final race when he was out of the track into gravel with the lead on the last lap. Nevertheless, Jeffrey managed to recover from this and took second place.
He had mixed feelings about his performance, but he definitely thinks that these experiences would prepare him for future competitions and, especially, the FIM Moto 2 Junior World Championship where he is confirmed to participate next year.
